Janie Havemeyer taught visiting school groups about medieval times in the galleries of The Metropolitan Museum of Art before becoming an elementary school teacher. Among her favorite things to do with her third grade students was learning about people in history by reading books, looking at art and role-playing in period costume.
Her two middle grade biographies, Catherine de’ Medici “The Black Queen” and Njinga “The Warrior Queen”, were part of the American Library Association Top 10 Nonfiction Series for Youth, 2012. Her third book, Call Me Ixchel, was voted one of the 10 Best Indie Middle Grade Novels of 2014 by Foreword Reviews.
